Roof Installation at Sopron Swimming Pool Postponed Due to Strong Winds

Postponed Until Friday

The 500-tonne mobile crane had already arrived on site earlier to lift the 42-metre-long, 3-metre-high glued laminated timber structural elements into place.

“The surface area is enormous, around 130 square metres, and it may only be moved in wind speeds of up to 6 m/s. We are currently measuring 11 m/s, which is why the operation has been postponed until Friday morning,” Kisalföld learned on site.

In Sopron, It Is Either Raining, Windy, or the Bells Are Ringing

Many people had been eager to see the giant crane in operation, with Mayor Ciprián Farkas and Member of Parliament Attila Barcza also arriving on site.

“The old saying has once again proved true: in Sopron, it is either raining, windy, or the bells are ringing,” said Ciprián Farkas. He added that there is no reason to complain about the progress of the new swimming pool, as the project is already more than halfway complete.

“Everything in Sopron is being built and improved. The construction of the indoor swimming pool is being carried out to a high standard, and future generations will be able to use it for the next hundred years. The plans were prepared in line with FINA recommendations, meaning the facility will also be suitable for hosting international sporting events,” the mayor added.
