Topping-Out Ceremony Marks New Milestone in Investment Set to Transform the Centre of Tatabánya

On Thursday afternoon, the topping-out ceremony was held in Tatabánya for the project comprehensively developing the city centre. Implemented by West Hungária Bau Kft., the investment will create a new public space in front of the County Hall, on the site of the former surface car park, while a two-level underground car park is also being built beneath the square. The reinforced concrete load-bearing structure of the latter has now reached its highest point, which was marked by the topping-out ceremony.

The former 125-space surface car park will be replaced by a 300-space underground car park, providing free parking for Tatabánya residents. The new square above the underground car park will feature spectacular green islands, street furniture, shade sails, drinking fountains, fountains and a mist gate.

Seven thousand square metres of concrete installed

At Thursday’s event, Norbert Geszler, Project Director at WHB, summarised the works carried out prior to structural construction. He explained that utility relocation and dewatering were followed by deep foundation works.

“As part of this phase, we used an impressive fleet of machinery to complete 5.5 kilometres of pile foundations and excavation support works,” the expert said.

In closing, he expressed special thanks to everyone whose work made it possible for the next specialist discipline to begin on schedule.

The structural construction works were summarised by Géza Bakos, Managing Director of Menzor BGMI Kft. According to him, more than 17,000 square metres of formwork and 1,100 tonnes of reinforcing steel were installed, while 8,500 cubic metres of concrete were placed.
