The Árpád Parking Garage in Győr is one of the most significant modern developments in the city center’s transportation and parking infrastructure, built at the intersection of Teleki László Street and Árpád Road. The goal of the project was to effectively manage the significantly increased urban traffic while creating a building that fits both functionally and aesthetically into the urban fabric.
Architectural and Technical Design
The building has a total floor area of approximately 8,000 m² and consists of 8 half-levels:
2 half-levels below ground (basement)
ground floor + 4 stories (8 half-levels in total)
The goal of the structural system was to create a facility that efficiently serves the parking function while also being visually appealing. The modern, ribbon-like basic form conveys dynamism, while the use of a green roof softens the monotonous mass typical of parking garages.
Green Roof Design
One of the project’s unique features is the extensive green roof system:
1,276 m², with dense vegetation
approx. 5,000 plants
automatic drip irrigation system
across multiple levels (3rd and 4th floors + entire roof level)
The green roof is not only an aesthetic element but also provides environmental benefits (reducing heat load, retaining rainwater, improving the urban microclimate).
Facade
Installed fiber-cement cladding – approx. 700 m² in total
This is a modern, durable, and low-maintenance solution that fits in with the city’s evolving image.

205 parking spaces, including
5 accessible spaces
electric vehicle chargers, motorcycle parking, and bicycle storage to be installed later

4 charging units on the 4th level (simultaneous charging for 8 vehicles)

entrances from Árpád út and Teleki utca

2 hydraulic passenger elevators (8-person capacity)

Ballet rehearsal studio – integration of cultural functions
One of the most innovative features of the parking garage is the rehearsal studio built for the Győr Ballet, located on the ground floor of the facility.

Full-scale ballet studio with support facilities
The rehearsal hall is a unique example of how a transportation infrastructure development can be combined with the creation of cultural value. A new, open, and accessible venue for the city’s cultural life has been created.
Urban Development Role and Impact
The Árpád Parking Garage is part of Győr’s deliberate urban development program, which aims to improve the livability of the downtown area, reduce traffic congestion, and expand cultural spaces.
The development was part of the project titled “Cycling and Parking Infrastructure Development in Győr.”
The parking garage alone has brought about a significant increase in capacity:
205 new parking spaces
relief for surface parking lots (estimated to “replace” a 1.1 km-long line of cars)
Another advantage of the project is that, thanks to the green roof and modern spatial design, the building does not stand out as a foreign element in the city center but blends in with the urban environment both visually and functionally.
