WHB’s 2025 Projects Demonstrated Excellence Across Several Professional Fields
In 2025, WEST HUNGÁRIA BAU Kft. received outstanding evaluations in several professional fields with different focuses, resulting in numerous international and domestic awards, as well as several individual recognitions for the company’s experts. Behind these awards are projects of varying scale and character, ranging from educational infrastructure and heritage reconstruction to specialised façade cladding works.
International Recognition for Specialist Teams
Between 22 and 25 October 2025, Bratislava hosted the 73rd Congress of the International Federation for the Roofing Trade (IFD), with the IFD Awards presented at the closing event. In the international field of roofing, sheet metal work and façade cladding, specialist teams involved in projects delivered under WHB’s general construction achieved podium finishes in the Façade Cladding category.
For example, the team of Pilisi Pléh-Boy Kft. took second place for the cladding of the National Széchényi Library Archival Centre in Piliscsaba, which was implemented under the general construction of the WHB–Fejér–B.Á.L. Zrt. consortium. The longitudinal façade of the award-winning building was clad with copper sheets (KME TECU), which defines the character of the façade not only through its colour and surface play, but also through an installation logic requiring precise detailing and disciplined execution.
During the works, more than 50 tonnes of copper sheets were installed on the roof structure and façade, covering an area of approximately 7,000 m². On the end façades of the building, cladding made of copper cassettes was applied, while the entrance side features a laser-cut pattern.
In the same category, the cladding works of the Kovács Katalin National Kayak-Canoe Academy in Sukoró were recognised with a bronze medal. The works were carried out by Horex Kft. and Bauer Bádogosipari Kft., where the manufacture and installation of curved and straight balcony coverings, shadow-gap claddings, standing seam surfaces and external balcony claddings became defining elements of the large-scale sports facility.
“As a main contractor, we always place particular emphasis on working exclusively with highly qualified professionals, as they provide the guarantee that we can meet our clients’ expectations at the highest level, using modern solutions and forward-looking creativity. Our commitment to quality is also confirmed by this outstanding international achievement, which we have now reached together. Our success is shared, because together we are able to create lasting value.” — WHB
Awards of Excellence in Several Categories
In the Hungarian professional field, the next important recognition came on 21 November at the FIABCI Hungary Awards of Excellence ceremony — the 27th Hungarian Real Estate Development Awards — where several projects by WEST HUNGÁRIA BAU Kft. received distinctions.
The Dunakeszi Student Quarter won first prize in the Education category. Developed on an area of more than 13 hectares, the complex comprises nearly 30,000 square metres of educational space and brings together the infrastructure of two institutions — IV. Béla Király Secondary School and Lányi Ferenc Technical School — as well as sports halls and a swimming pool.
For the company, the construction of the project was memorable not only because of the scale of the development, but also due to the organisational and technical complexity of its implementation.
On the same evening, the reconstruction of the former Royal Hungarian Ministry of Finance in Buda Castle won third prize. In addition, the project received the special award of the Budapest Chamber of Commerce and Industry, as well as a special recognition for “Best Development”, based on a secret vote by the applicants.
The complex development delivered the façade and roof reconstruction, as well as the modernisation of the interior spaces, in line with the original concept. As a result, the rehabilitation restored not only the building’s external character, but also its functional prestige.
At the FIABCI gala, the Kovács Katalin National Kayak-Canoe Academy received the special award of the FIABCI Hungarian Chapter, while the “Cube” building of Széchenyi István University’s Science Park was recognised with the special award of the Hungarian Chamber of Architects.
Individual Recognitions for WHB Professionals
The professional closing event of this year’s Hungarian construction industry took place on 10 December at the year-end gala of the National Federation of Hungarian Building Contractors (ÉVOSZ), where, in addition to the presentation of professional awards, individual recognitions were also granted.
In the 2025 Construction Industry Awards of Excellence competition, the judging committee awarded an Award of Excellence in connection with the implementation of the former Royal Hungarian Ministry of Finance and the Kovács Katalin National Kayak-Canoe Academy, while the Dunakeszi Student Quarter received a Certificate of Recognition.
A key highlight of the evening was the presentation of the Lechner Ödön Awards, established in 1994. In 2025, the Presidency of ÉVOSZ awarded the Lechner Ödön Award to Attila Peterka, Strategic Director of WHB, in recognition of his nearly three decades of professional work in the field of building construction.
The series of professional awards presented that evening was further expanded by the Sándy Gyula Award of the Hungarian Chamber of Architects. Balázs Zboray, certified architect and Project Director at WHB, received the recognition for his work as Project Director and Responsible Technical Manager in the reconstruction of the former Royal Hungarian Ministry of Finance.
The 2025 Construction Industry Marketing Communications Professional of the Year Award, announced by the Media Section of ÉVOSZ, was awarded to Zsanett Szikszai, Head of Marketing at WHB. This recognition was granted in a field where the accurate and professionally credible presentation of construction and architectural achievements forms an important part of industry dialogue.
