WHB Awarded Construction of the House of Public Bodies Project

According to a statement sent by the Hungarian Academy of Arts to MTI, the design and construction contract for the House of Public Bodies, located within the area of the Hungarian Architecture Centre and Museum, was signed in a ceremonial setting on 2 December at the MMA office building.

The agreement between the Secretariat of the Hungarian Academy of Arts and WEST HUNGÁRIA BAU Építőipari Szolgáltató Kft. (WHB) was signed on behalf of the Hungarian Academy of Arts by President Attila Turi and Secretary General Gábor Richly, and on behalf of the contractor by Attila Paár, founder and owner of WHB.

The Contract Does Not Yet Cover the Full Development

According to the statement, the signing marks another milestone in the development of the Hungarian Architecture Centre and Museum, a project consisting of several elements. The current contract concerns the transformation of an existing building, while the overall long-term objective is the implementation of the full complex development of the Hungarian Architecture Centre and Museum in the vicinity of the Walter Rózsi Villa.

As part of its professional and social engagement, the Hungarian Academy of Arts plans to offer accommodation in the House of Public Bodies to the professional organisations expected to move into the building. The House of Public Bodies represents a new opportunity, expanding the number of intellectual workshops dedicated to architecture, the statement said.

With regard to Building No. 7 of the former Ministry of Interior hospital complex, the aim of the Hungarian Academy of Arts, as the owner, is to provide accommodation there for the Hungarian Chamber of Architects, the Budapest Chamber of Architects, the Hungarian Chamber of Engineers, and the Budapest and Pest County Chamber of Engineers.

The reconstruction will be carried out in a heritage environment, in the vicinity of the Herczel Sanatorium, the Grünwald Sanatorium, the Reformed Church and the Ráth György Villa.

In December 2023, the winner of the international design competition for the Hungarian Architecture Centre and Museum was announced. The competition was won by the joint entry of Tér és Forma Szeged Építéstervező Kft. and BIVAK studio Kft.

Hungary’s New Museum May Be Built in a Prominent Urban Setting

In the area bordered by Városligeti Fasor and Bajza Street — next to the Walter Rózsi Villa, the first independent exhibition venue of the MÉM MDK — not only will a new main building be constructed, but two listed turn-of-the-century buildings and two terraced office buildings will also be renovated, while a new open urban public park will also be created.

In March 2025, the plans for the Hungarian Architecture Centre and Museum received a building permit, and in July the visual designs of the building complex, offering more than 27,000 square metres of usable floor area, as well as the open urban park, were also presented.
