Innovation in Construction: How Our IT Is Evolving
“We don’t wait for someone else to solve our challenges—we build the solutions ourselves.”
The construction industry is not traditionally known for being at the forefront of digital transformation. At WHB, however, we are committed to changing that. Over the past year, we have made significant investments in our IT infrastructure, cybersecurity, and in-house software development to support a more efficient and resilient business.
Our IT organization operates on a hybrid model. Our internal team is responsible for software development, IT strategy, and close collaboration with business units, while an outsourced support team ensures the reliable day-to-day operation of our systems. This approach allows us to focus our resources where they create the greatest business value.
A Complete Network Upgrade in Győr
Last year, we completed a comprehensive modernization of the network infrastructure at our Győr facility. Every network switch was replaced, including both office switches and the core network infrastructure, as well as the specialized switches connecting our server environment.
The upgrade eliminated a long-standing issue that had caused repeated network outages and significantly improved the overall stability, performance, and reliability of the site’s IT infrastructure.
New Storage Infrastructure: Dell PowerVault ME5224
Another major milestone was the deployment of a Dell PowerVault ME5224 storage system. The solution features dual active-active controllers and fourteen 3.2 TB SAS SSDs, providing more than 44 TB of raw storage capacity.
The investment addressed a practical business challenge. Performance limitations in our previous storage environment affected day-to-day operations, particularly when working with the large engineering drawings and project documentation that are essential to construction projects. The new system delivers the speed and reliability our teams require.
“We don’t invest in technology because it’s fashionable—we invest because it makes our colleagues’ everyday work easier and more efficient.”
Strengthening Cybersecurity with Nimblr
At the end of 2025, we introduced the Nimblr cybersecurity awareness and training platform.
Rather than relying on a single annual training session, Nimblr continuously educates employees through simulated phishing campaigns and targeted learning modules. When someone falls for a simulated phishing attempt, they immediately receive personalized training, helping to strengthen cybersecurity awareness across the organization.
Because in cybersecurity, the human factor is often the most critical line of defense.
Building Our Own Applications with AI Support
One of our most exciting initiatives is the integration of artificial intelligence into software development.
Our development team uses Anthropic’s Claude AI to accelerate programming and deliver custom-built applications tailored to the company’s operational needs.
Current projects include:
- WHB CAR – a fleet management system currently in the testing phase.
- A custom task management application developed for our Executive Office.
- A completely redesigned intranet, providing a centralized knowledge base, document repository, HR information, employee directory, and QR code-enabled digital business cards that allow colleagues to add contact details directly to their phones.
By developing these solutions in-house, we can respond quickly to changing business requirements while creating tools that fit the way our teams actually work.
Physical Security: Predor Access Control System
IT extends beyond digital systems.
Working closely with our Security Department, we have implemented the Predor access control system, combining modern access management with automatic license plate recognition technology.
At a construction company where vehicles and personnel move continuously between sites, robust physical security is not a luxury—it’s a business necessity.
Supporting Our Teams On Site
Technology is most valuable when it solves real-world problems.
That’s why our IT Manager and Security team regularly visit construction sites to understand operational challenges firsthand and continuously improve the IT and security services that support our projects.
The best solutions are developed where the work actually happens—not just behind a desk.
Looking Ahead
Our vision is clear: IT should not be viewed simply as a support function or cost center, but as a strategic driver of competitiveness and innovation.
Construction has traditionally been slower than many industries to embrace digital transformation. We see this not as a limitation, but as an opportunity. By investing in modern infrastructure, cybersecurity, and intelligent software solutions, we are building a stronger, more agile company—one that is well prepared for the future.
