WHB Opens New Training Centre in Győr to Train Construction Industry Professionals

The construction industry faces a number of labour market challenges not only in Hungary, but worldwide, the most significant of which is the shortage of skilled labour and new professional talent.

The Construction Industry Regional Training Centre in Győr, established by the companies of WHB Group, offers a real response to this market challenge. As one of the most modern institutions in the country providing practice-oriented training, it plays an important role in supporting the development of the next generation of construction industry professionals.

Several factors have contributed to the labour shortage and succession challenges facing the construction industry. On the one hand, the social, technological, environmental and political changes of recent years have simultaneously increased capacities to such an extent that production has become extremely intensive, resulting in a significant labour shortage.

At the same time, the shortage of skilled labour is also linked to the low social recognition of construction trades, which has led to a radical decline in the number of young people choosing these professions.

As a defining player in the Hungarian market for three decades, and as one of the region’s major construction industry employers, WEST HUNGÁRIA BAU Kft. experiences this unfavourable trend first-hand on a daily basis. This is precisely why the company has taken an active role in establishing the Construction Industry Regional Training Centre in Győr — not only in developing the concept, but also in defining the educational directions and creating the first training workshops.

“High-quality education for the next generation is of outstanding importance to WEST HUNGÁRIA BAU Kft.,” emphasises Dr Szilárd Lipovits, Director of the Centre.

“We are firmly committed to seizing every opportunity that enables students to acquire the right knowledge and skills. To this end, we have maintained excellent professional relationships with several educational institutions for many years. Among these, our decade-long partnership with the Hild József Construction Technical School of Győr SZC is particularly significant.

Within the framework of this cooperation, the educational institution has received equipment worth millions of forints to support high-quality education. Thanks to these tools, specialised classrooms supporting technician training and laying the foundations for dual education have been created at the school. In these classrooms, high-performance computers capable of 3D modelling allow students to try and use the most modern architectural software, while also providing insight into the complex design, construction and operation processes of the construction industry based on 3D modelling.

Our students achieve excellent results: in the building construction technician profession, two of our students achieved outstanding placements at the National Professional Study Competition. This not only confirms the professional work carried out at our training centre during the past academic year, but also reflects the high professional standard of education provided by our founding institution.”
