The Hotel Helikon****superior was one of the largest and most complex tourism developments in Keszthely in recent years. The project was carried out by West Hungária Bau Kft., resulting in a complete structural, architectural, and service-oriented renovation of this iconic hotel on the shores of Lake Balaton.
The goal of the project was to create a four-star superior, modern, high-capacity hotel that meets the needs of relaxation, sports, events, and gastronomy—in a manner befitting the city’s prominent role in tourism.

Main technical scope of the project
As part of the project, the building underwent a comprehensive renovation of its mechanical, electrical, and interior systems. The facade was insulated, the windows and doors were replaced, and the water and thermal insulation systems were modernized.
During the renovation, the circulation cores, elevators, and emergency exits were also completely refurbished, and the entire building was redesigned to meet modern tourism standards.
Wellness, event, and community development projects
As one of the project’s largest components, WHB demolished the former wellness area and built a state-of-the-art, three-story complex in its place. The new facility features an indoor adventure pool, as well as an outdoor pool and adjoining sun decks.
The wellness offerings are complemented by a comprehensive sauna area, which includes a Finnish sauna, steam room, and infrared sauna, along with various relaxation zones and rest areas. The complex also features a fitness center equipped with modern equipment.
The development also places significant emphasis on community and event facilities: an event center spanning approximately 1,100 square meters has been created, providing an ideal venue for conferences, weddings, and corporate events. This is complemented by a large-capacity restaurant with panoramic views, as well as a fully renovated lobby and bar.
Behind the scenes, state-of-the-art hotel technology infrastructure supports operations, including modern kitchen systems, storage areas, and service spaces, ensuring high-quality service.
Outdoor areas and related developments
The project involved not only the renovation of the building but also a comprehensive redesign of the hotel’s entire waterfront environment. As part of this, Helikon Island was redeveloped and connected directly to the hotel via a bridge, enriching the area with a new experiential element.
The project involved comprehensive landscaping and site development, the creation of new pedestrian connections, and the development of the hotel’s own waterfront beach and a system of associated relaxation areas. The outdoor pools and amenities were implemented according to a unified landscape architecture concept, ensuring visual and functional harmony within the environment.
Closely linked to these developments is the Helikon Tennis Center, built in the immediate vicinity of the hotel, which further expands and strengthens the facility’s sports and event offerings.
The main areas of focus for WHB’s construction work
Structural and architectural modernization
During the structural renovation of the old building, we reinforced the load-bearing elements, installed state-of-the-art thermal and water insulation, and improved the building’s energy efficiency. The project also included a complete redesign of the interior.
What makes this project unique is the creation of modern, minimalist interior spaces, where premium finishes, custom-made furniture, and mood lighting come together in a cohesive design inspired by the Mediterranean and Lake Balaton.
Establishment of a modern operational infrastructure
WHB placed a strong emphasis on energy-efficient mechanical systems, smart lighting technologies, and a complete modernization of the hotel’s technical infrastructure.
Implementation in a live environment
Part of the project involved ensuring that the promenade along Lake Balaton, which runs alongside the hotel, remained open to the public at all times—a task that required extremely complex logistical planning.
